Urlaub 19.-28. Mai 2014 / Holiday 19th-28th May 2014

Wer auch immer sich durch den letzten Eintrag gewühlt hat, zunächst Hut ab! Ich weiß, er war lang, und bestückt mit viel Info. Aber dann wisst ihr jetzt ja, wie miserabel es mir ging und dass etliches nicht so lief, wie ich mir das so vorstellte. Mein einziger Lichtblick war eigentlich der Mai-Urlaub, und als ich am Freitag, 16. Mai abends (oder sollte ich sagen nachts) gegen 21 Uhr endlich das Büro verlassen habe war ich im wahrsten Sinn des Wortes urlaubsreif. Mehr als das sogar. Doch ich hatte viele schöne Dinge vor mir. Also, fangen wir mal an.

Whoever read through the previous entry, kudos! I know it was long and loaded with information. But at least you have a good picture now of how miserable I had been and that a lot of things wouldn't go the way I had hoped. My only ray of sunshine was my holiday in May, so when I left the office on Friday evening (or should I say night), 16th May at about 9 PM, I was more than ready and in need of said holiday. And I was going to have a really great time. So, let's start.

Dass Seb da war, hat mich natürlich am Meisten gefreut ;)

Gegen halb zehn morgens bin ich angekommen, und gleich mal schier Tyler in die Arme gelaufen. Meine Überraschung war ziemlich groß, denn Tyler war nie angekündigt worden, sondern ist als Überraschungsgast da gewesen. Ja, die Überraschung ist wie gesagt bei mir definitiv gelungen. Seb und Tyler... Ich glaub, beide haben sich noch an mich erinnert. Ja, ich war happy! Wie üblich war ich die ganze Convention über in den Coffee Lounges gesteckt, und muss sagen, wer mir auch ziemlich getaugt hat war Adam. Irgendwie hab ich es offenbar mit den Schauspielern die Engel spielen ;) Adam war ziemlich belesen und intelligent, mit ihm konnte man sich richtig gut unterhalten. Und obendrein sieht er auch noch verdammt gut aus *grins* Osric muss ich sagen, hat mich eher negativ überrascht. Recht langweilig und definitiv nicht meine Wellenlänge. Gabriel ist ein knuffiges Kerlchen, der sowas von down-to-earth ist, was ihn absolut sympathisch macht. Auf wen ich mich ja auch sehr gefreut hatte, war Amanda Tapping. Und meine Herren, die Frau schaut verdammt gut aus. Und hat ein unglaublich großes Herz. Definitiv ein weiteres positives Erlebnis auf der Convention.

Alles in allem ein wohltuendes Wochenende, obwohl ich natürlich fix und fertig von den vorangegangenen Monaten war.

I arrived at about half past nine, and almost ran into Tyler's arms. To say I was surprised was a bit of an understatement as Tyler had never been announced as a guest and had come as a surprise guest. Well, as far as I was concerned, that was a great surprise. Seb and Tyler, I think both even remembered me. Yes, I was happy! As usual on those conventions I was mostly to be found in the Coffee Lounges, and I have to say, I also quite fancied Adam. Seems I have a thing for guys who play Angels on Supernatural ;) Adam reads a lot and was quite intelligent. You could have some great conversations with this guy. And he is looking good as well *grins* Osric on the other hand, was a bit of a disappointment. Rather boring and definitely not on my wavelength. Gabriel is so cute and hugely down-to-earth, which makes him terribly likeable. Another person I was really looking forward to finally meet was Amanda Tapping. And geez, that woman looks hot! And she has a huge heart for charity. Certainly another positive experience on the convention.

All in all a pleasant weekend even though I was still hugely tired and low on energy from the previous months.

Cardiff - 18.-21.05.2014

Sonntagabend bin ich dann in den Bus gestiegen und nach Cardiff weitergetigert. Es war viel zu lang her, dass ich dort das letzte Mal war. Fast zwei Jahre. Hier konnte ich wirklich so richtig Energie tanken und den ganzen Stress und Sorgen vergessen. Jeden Tag hab ich meinen guten Freund Alun gesehen (eine Freundschaft, die seit 2008 besteht, und die mich sehr glücklich macht), und ich hab außerdem die Zeit genutzt, mal wieder in Oxfam reinzuschauen, sowie mich mit meiner alten Vermieterin zu treffen. Meine ehemalige Chefin von Oxfam kannte mich leider nur noch vage, aber eine Freiwillige, mit der ich schon 2008 zusammengearbeitet habe, konnte sich noch sehr gut an mich erinnern. Das Treffen mit meiner Vermieterin war auch sehr schön, gab natürlich viel zu erzählen (sie hat mir mit traurigem Ton erzählt, dass sie John Barrowman als Nachbarn verloren hat). Im Übrigen werde ich jetzt einfach ein paar Bilder wirken lassen (zu finden nach dem englischen Text).

Cardiff - 18th-21st May 2014

Sunday evening I got into the coach and travelled onwards to Cardiff. It had been way too long since I had been there last. Almost two years. Here I was able to re-energise and forget about all the stress and the worries. Every day I met up with my good friend Alun (a friendship which exists since 2008 and which makes me very happy), and I also used the time to visit my old Oxfam shop as well as meeting up with my ex landlady. My former boss at Oxfam unfortunately only remembered me vaguely, but another volunteer with whom I had already worked together back in 2008, remembered me all too well. The meeting with my landlady was also very nice and we had a lot to catch up with (she told me with a saddened voice that they've lost John Barrowman as a neighbour). And now have some pictures.

Bracknell - 21.05.2014

Recht kurzfristige Planänderung in meinem Urlaubsplan. Eigentlich hatte ich vor, diesen Tag in Bournemouth zu verbringen. Was ich bislang jedoch noch nicht erwähnt hatte, ich war kurz vor meinem Urlaub von einem Headhunter auf LinkedIn angeschrieben worden zwecks einer Stelle, die für mich - basierend auf meinem LinkedIn-Profil - ziemlich gut passen dürfte. Zugegeben, was er mir so erzählte, klang interessant. Aus allen Wolken bin ich dann aber gefallen als er mir sagte, was mein Gehalt sein würde. Also sagte ich letztlich zu zu einem Vorstellungsgespräch. Dieses haben wir für 21.05.2014 arrangiert, mitten im IT Silicon Valley von England, in Bracknell. Hier finden sich Firmen wie HP, Dell, Honeywell undundund. Und eben auch die Firma, bei der ich das Vorstellungsgespräch hatte. RSA, The Security Division of EMC. Was mich persönlich an der Stelle interessierte war nicht nur, dass ich hauptsächlich mit Partnern und Distributoren arbeiten würde, sondern auch die Karriere-Möglichkeiten die sich durch die Verbindung zu EMC boten. Das Vorstellungsgespräch verlief ziemlich gut, war jedenfalls mein Eindruck. Das Recruitment-Training mitsamt seinen Tips und Tricks, das ich bei EIMS erhalten hatte, half mir die zwei Gesprächspartner innerhalb der ersten Minuten in die Tasche zu stecken. Es war im Prinzip ein ziemliches Standard-Vorstellungsgespräch, doch ich habs ganz subtil auf andere Schienen gebracht, was die zwei glaub ich nicht mal so gemerkt haben. Und so zog ich mit positiven Gedanken weiter nach Bournemouth, wo ich abends nur neu die Koffer packte, denn mein Urlaub ging ja noch weiter.

Bracknell - 21st May 2014

Change of holiday plans at short notice. Originally I had planned to spend the day in Bournemouth. What I had not mentioned until this point is that shortly before my holiday I had been approached by a Headhunter on LinkedIn. He said, going by my profile on LinkedIn, he has a position which would suit me greatly. Admittedly, the things he told me about the role did sound interesting. I had almost fallen off my chair when he told me what my salary would be though. So I agreed to an interview. Which got arranged for 21st May 2014, slap bang in the middle of the IT Silicon Valley of England, in Bracknell. You can find companies here such as HP, Dell, Honeywell, etc. And the company where I had the interview, RSA, The Security Division of EMC. What I found quite interesting about the role was not only that I'd get the chance to work mostly with partners and distis, but also the massive carreer opportunities due to the link with EMC. The interview went really well, at least that had been my impression. The recruitment training with all its hints and tricks which I had received at EIMS, helped me get the two interviewers on my side within the first few minutes. They were aiming for a very usual interview, and I turned this thing a bit around, without them really noticing, I think. And so I moved on to Bournemouth eventually, my mind filled with positive thoughts. In the evening all I did was repack as my holiday was still far from finished.

Deutschland - 22.-27.05.2014

Meine Zeit in Deutschland verbrachte ich hauptsächlich mit meinen Eltern, aber auch mit meinen Freunden aus meiner Jongliertruppe. Ich denke, da ich bereits wieder mehr als genug Text geliefert hab, gibts für den Deutschland-Teil meines Urlaubs wieder Bilder. Die sollten genug sein um zu sehen, wie schön der Urlaub war und wie gut er mir getan hat :)

My time in Germany was mostly spent with my parents, but also with my friends from my juggling group. Given I have thrown more than enough text at you already, I'll fill the Germany part of my holiday with pics.
