Southampton

Am 2. August war ich nur einen halben Tag auf der Arbeit. Grund war derjenige, dass ich nach Southampton musste. Ja, richtig. Musste. Warum? Weil ich bislang keine Sozialversicherungsnummer hatte, und das nächste Büro, das mir eine solche Nummer verpassen konnte, nicht in Bournemouth war, sondern im benachbarten Southampton. Naja, benachbart... ca. 45 Minuten mim Bus warens schon. Termin hatte ich um ca. 14 Uhr. Da ich frühzeitig da war, habe ich erst mal etwas Geocaching betrieben (und damit meinen allerersten UK-Cache gehoben). Dann ab zu dieser Behörde. Um 14:15 war ich schon wieder fertig. Da ich mit sowas aber schon gerechnet hatte, und ich mir gedacht hab, wenn ich schon mal woanders bin, will ich mir auch wenigstens die Stadt etwas anschauen, hatte ich die Rückfahrt auf etwa 19 Uhr gebucht. Der nette Herr, der meine Daten aufgenommen hat, hat mir erzählt, dass der Spaziergangspfad entlang der Stadtmauern in der Regel sehr interessant und informativ ist. Also hab ich mich dorthin aufgemacht. Das hat mich in der Tat ein paar Stunden beschäftigt. Und mir beinahe einen Sonnenbrand verpasst ;)

On 2 August I had been at work only for half a day. Reason being that I didn't have a social security number yet. And the nearest office, which could give me such a number, was not located in Bournemouth, but in the nearby Southampton. Well... nearby... about 45 minutes away by bus. My appointment was set for about 2 PM. As I had arrived well on time I started with some geocaching (and found my very first British cache that way). Then on to the office. At 2.15 PM I was already finished. But I had expected for this to happen. Which is why I had booked the return trip for around 7 PM as I wanted to have a stroll across the city given I'd never been there. The nice man at the office has told me that the walk along the walls is usually very interesting and there's a lot to learn. And so I did just that. Which indeed kept me busy for a few hours. And I almost got sunburnt.
