Der Tag der Auswanderung / The day of my immigration

And then it was there. It felt kinda surreal how fast the 14 June 2013 suddenly came crashing down on me in a way. Well, fortunately I had booked a flight for around noon, so we didn't have to get up too early. However there were still a few things that needed to be taken care of. I called the car sales guy again, and luckily I was able to get him to agree to buy Owly from me, not just to take him into commission. My dad was supposed to then continue the further negotiations the week after. Also, due to all the stress the previous day I had also forgotten my jacket in the car. Well, we finished breakfat, pretty much everything was packed anyway. While my parents got the car from the car park, I quickly went up to the post office and bought the forwarding request for postal deliveries. Filled it in in the car. Short stop at the car sales guy, so he gets to see my dad, and most importantly my dad gets to see (and "know" him) and I grabbed my jacket from the car. Here you can see my faithful Owly one last time.

Also wieder rüber.

Anflug auf London / Descend over London
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On went the drive to the airport. I felt numb, excited, scared and sad at the same time. I wouldn't say happy, because the last few days had not exactly made me a happy bunny.
Dad found a parking space, we went into the airport, I dropped off my luggage (my travel backpack was classified as bulky luggage again and then on to the security area. Very unfriendly airport staff yelled at us, when all my dad wanted to do was take a last goodbye pic of my mum and me. So we went elsewhere. Also took the goodbye pic with my dad, and then it was pretty much time for me to head through security. So we went back there. But as of that point, I was no longer able to keep my tears at bay. All I could do was cry my eyes out. I even had the very brief moment of thinking about not doing it. The last few days surely had a major impact on me in that minute. At some point all tears were dried, I went through security, kept waving back at my parents until the very end when I finally disappeared around a corner, and started sobbing again. My favourite coffee, which I can get at the Lufthansa Gates for free thankfully, calmed me down again a bit. Said goodbye to a few folks on WhatsApp and then boarding started shortly after anyway. The weather seemed fitting. Munich was pretty much just grey. When the plane had arrived on the runway and accellerated, the tears started rolling over my cheeks again. It was unbelievable. I don't ever remember myself like that. Thankfully I got a grip on myself again at some point during the flight. Read some Doctor Who, sandwich was also yummy. So yummy in fact, that I asked whether I could have another in case there are any left. This is what I really like about Lufthansa, because I indeed got a second sandwich. Food for later on is never wrong. And then the descend over London to Heathrow started. I know, why I'm always sitting on the right-hand side, because I always have the most fantastic view then.
Der Flug hat mein Gefühlschaos wieder etwas runtergeschraubt. Endlich in London angekommen, war glaub ich so ein bisschen der Punkt an dem es begann, dass mir klar wurde, dass dies alles wirklich geschieht. Naja, klar werden ist glaub ich ne Übertreibung. Aber irgendwas in der Richtung ist denke ich passiert. Koffer kamen gewohnt zackig, Geld abgehoben, und dann ab zum National Express Terminal. Da der Flieger megapüntklich war, konnte ich sogar einen früheren Bus nehmen. Also Ticket umgetauscht und zack saß ich schon im Bus nach Bournemouth. War schon seltsam. Wenn ich in Heathrow in nen National Express Bus einsteige, bin ich so gewohnt, dass er auf die M4 fährt und dann gehts eigentlich nur noch gradaus nach Cardiff. Aber nach Bournemouth ist dann doch ne etwas andere Strecke. Also die neue Strecke etwas begutachtet, wieder etwas Doctor Who gelesen und etwas mehr als zwei Stunden später war der Bus auch schon in Bournemouth. Meine gefühlten zig Koffer und Taschen geschnappt und Richtung Taxistand gewackelt. Ich hatte absolut keine Ahnung, wo das Hotel ist, in das ich eingebucht wurde, und mit dem Gepäck wollte ich auch keine Tour durch die Stadt starten. Ich mag ja Taxifahren nicht wirklich, aber in dem Fall ging es schlichtweg nicht anders. Glücklicherweise bin ich an eine sehr nette Taxifahrerin gelangt, die mir gleich mal nen Ratschlag in Punkto gute Wohngegenden gegeben hat. Ein paar Minuten später waren wir auch schon am Hotel und die 6 Pfund fürs Taxi waren mehr als okay. Die Treppen hoch, zur Rezeption gewackelt, eingecheckt, rüber zum Fahrstuhl (oder soll ich Sardinenbüchse sagen? Immerhin hab ich mit meinem Gepäck reingepasst) und dann mein Zimmer so ungefähr am Ende vom Gang bezogen. Eigentlich war das Zimmer echt okay gelegen, aber mit meinem Gepäck war das echt schier ne Weltreise durch das Hotel. Aber ich lasse die Bilder von dem Zimmer jetzt einfach mal für sich sprechen (nach dem englischen Teil des Eintrags).
The flight thankfully calmed my emotional chaos a bit. Having finally landed in London was somewhat the point it became clear to me that this all is really happening. Well, becoming clear might be a bit too strong, but something like that did happen. My luggage came quickly as usual and I was immediately off to the National Express Terminal. Given my flight was more than on time I was able to catch an earlier coach even. Exchanged my ticket and a few minutes later I was on the coach to Bournemouth. It was a bit strange, because whenever I was at Heathrow, I was so used to getting on the coach, which then pulls up straight onto the M4 and from there on drives directly to Cardiff. But Bournemouth is obviously a slightly different route. Well, something new to look at for a bit, read some more Doctor Who and a bit over two hours later I was already in Bournemouth. I collected my gazillion pieces of luggage (at least that's how it felt at that point) and shuffled over to the taxis. I had no clue where exactly my hotel was the company booked me a room for, and with that amount of luggage I certainly did not want to start a tour through town. To be honest, I don't like riding in a taxi, but in this case it really was my only way of getting to my hotel. Luckily I got into a taxi with a really lovely female driver who even gave me some advice on possible locations where it's nice to live. A few minutes later we had already reached the hotel and the 6 Quid for the taxi were more than okay and happily paid. Up the stairs, shuffled to the reception desk, checked in, over to the lift (or should I say can for sardines? At least I was able to squeeze in with all my luggage) and then found my room at the end of the hallway. I mean, in general the room was not too far away to reach, but with my amount of luggage it felt like a tour across the world to get there. And now I will just let the pictures I took of the hotel room to speak for themselves.
Die Firma hatte mir ja nicht nur ein Zimmer gebucht, sondern ich hatte auch Frühstück und Abendessen dabei. An dem Abend wusste ich, nach zwei Wochen in diesem Hotel kann es passieren, dass ich beim Auszug rausrolle. Das Essen war einfach soooo hammerlecker. Hier seht ihr, was ich am ersten Abend als Haupt- und Nachspeise hatte (es war immer ein 3-Gänge-Menü, aber von der Vorspeise hab ich damals leider kein Foto gemacht, ich war zu hungrig ;) )
 The company didn't just book a room for me, but I also had breakfast and dinner included. That evening I learned, that after two weeks in this hotel, I might be rolling out of it when I'm moving into my own place. The food was soooooo delicious. Here you can see, what I had for main and dessert (it was always a 3-course menu, but I didn't take a picture of my starter that evening, I was too hungry ;) )
Pasta mit getrockneten Tomaten, Oliven und Artischocken / pasta with dried tomatoes, olives and artichokes
Ne Art Schoko-Küchlein mit Clotted Cream / Chocolate tarte with clotted cream
Da ich ja ein völlig verrücktes Huhn bin, und ich am nächsten Tag mit dem Zug nach Birmingham fuhr, bin ich am selben Abend meiner Ankunft in Bournemouth noch von dannen gewackelt und hab mir angeschaut, wie ich zum Bahnhof komme. Das wollte ich definitiv nicht am nächsten Morgen suchen und mich am Ende noch verlaufen. Dank eines sehr netten Burschen an der Rezeption habe ich aber eine sehr gute Wegbeschreibung mitsamt Stadtplan bekommen und der Weg war schnell gefunden. Ich habe gleich noch meine Zugtickets aus der Maschine rausgelassen und bin wieder zum Hotel zurück. Gleich mal die Dusche ausgetestet, und dann war ich sehr bald im Bett, denn am nächsten Tag musste ich früh raus. Der Zug verließ Bournemouth immerhin um 6:45 Uhr.
Soviel zu diesem Tag. Zusammengefasst kann man glaub ich sagen, dass es ne ziemliche Achterbahnfahrt war. Sehr viel geweint, aber auch endlich wieder das Gefühl von Hoffnung wirklich gespürt. Denn Letzteres war mir doch fremder und fremder geworden. Ich hoffe, dass ich nicht so schnell wieder dort lande. Manchmal ist Hoffnung wirklich das Einzige, was man noch hat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As I am totally crazy and I left for Birmingham the next day, I left the hotel after dinner again to see what is the best way to get to the station. I certainly did not want to leave that for the next morning, and risk getting lost, worst case. Thanks to a lovely chap at the reception desk I got a precise description as well as a town map and found the way really quickly. Got my tickets from the machine and walked back to the hotel. Tested the shower and it didn't take too long for me to find my bed, because I had to get up early again the next morning. The train for Bournemouth left at 6:45 AM.

Well, that much for this day. Summarised I guess you can say it was quite the rollercoaster ride. I cried a lot, but I also started to get this faint feeling of hope again. Because the latter seemed to drift further and further away from me. I strongly hope that I won't get there again any time soon. Sometimes hope is really all we have left.
